Private Ashtanga Yoga Sessions–San Francisco & Skype
Who benefits? I work with beginners and advanced yogis to deepen their practice, develop a home practice and identify areas of focus. The bottom-line is that learning from a book, a video, or in a classroom where poses are parroted off by teachers just skims the surface of what’s possible from yoga practice. If you’re just starting out, it can be extremely helpful to have a teacher, not just to learn techniques, but to contextualize yoga practice into your life. If you have more experience, a teacher can offer both an eye and a conversation to provide feedback and deepen integration.
How does it work? I work individually with you to tailor a practice to your specific needs. You will learn postures, breath work, and meditation. If you’d like to learn more about the philosophy of yoga and how it applies to life, I can also incorporate that into the study. It all depends on your specific needs. After you’ve developed a degree of mastery, the practice will be tweaked to reflect your growth and development.
What is Ashtanga Yoga? Ashtanga Yoga emphasizes conscious breathing in coordination with physical movement. By harmonizing these two, you can create a meditative, focused state of mind as well as increase your stamina, strength, and flexibility. Ashtanga’s sequence of postures produces intense internal heat and a profuse sweat that purifies and strengthens the body, resulting in a profound sense of vitality.
Yoga by Skype Yes, over Skype. For home practicing yogis who do not have a teacher, all sorts of questions come up about technique, philosophy, and the ‘how-to’ of applying what you’re learning on the mat in your life. This translation from yoga practice to personal life can be daunting. That’s where a relationship with a teacher is critical. If you’re stuck somewhere with your practice, I offer a complimentary session by Skype. Just fill out the form below and I’ll get in touch to schedule it.
My Experience: I have been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for almost 20 years and teaching it for 14. I began studying with my teacher, Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga in India in 1993 and made regular visits back to India to see him before his death in 2009. I received his authorization to teach in 2005. I use the principles of Ashtanga Yoga but alter the practice to each individual’s needs.
